Tony Stevens (soprano cornet). Tony was born in Luton and learnt to play in the local Salvation Army Band. Tony has played with Luton Salvation Army Band, Weymouth Citadel and Paignton Citadel. In his spare time, Tony enjoys football and popular music. Tony used to be a DJ and once appeared on the BBC 1 Breakfast Show. Tony has recently retired from his job as a Bank Manager but was head hunted and is now our Band Treasurer.
Kevin Cunningham (repiano cornet). Kevin was born in Crawley West Sussex and learnt to play at the Thomas Bennett Community School. He is a continuous improvement consultant with the Valuation Office Agency which is part of HMRC. Kevin played for Maidstone British Legion Band and while serving as a special constable with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Band. Kevin enjoys all sorts of music and runs his own mobile disco. Kevin is one of the band trustees and has special responsibility for equipment and instruments.
Bert Moore (second cornet). Bert comes from Teignmouth and attends Torquay Boys’ Grammar School. He learnt to play trumpet at school and has been playing for 6 years. At School he plays in the Wind Band and Orchestra and loves making music. When not doing music, Bert is interested in War Hammer history.
Julie Gill (second cornet). Julie learned to play the trumpet at Westlands School, Torquay. She went on to join the Torbay Brass Band where she met trombonist husband Tom. Currently Julie plays in various instrumental groups on trumpet, cornet and cello.
Lester Shapter (third cornet). Lester was born in Paignton and learnt to play at Torquay Salvation Army. He describes his interests as football, especially the admin and refereeing side. Lester spent 21 years refereeing in the football league and actually sent off George Best for the use of foul language. He has also refereed in Europe and the Middle East. This was not his main occupation though as he was a Police Officer. Lester played with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Band and is now our Band Manager.
Penny Reed (third cornet). Penny comes from Truro and learnt to play with the Redruth Band. Penny is a senior and highly qualified nurse. In her spare time she enjoys reading, musicals and the theatre. She is also heavily involved with her Church. Penny has performed in a play in front of Princess Diana.
Theresa Moorin (third cornet). Our talented resident singer is also now one of our third cornet players.
