Hannah Spooner BMus(hons) Grad RNCM PGCE (sec Music)
Hannah took over as the Band’s MD in April 2025 having been the Band’s principal cornet. Hannah was educated at Torquay Girl’s Grammar School and then went to study at the Royal Northern College of Music in Manchester where she studied in the School of Academic Studies with lessons in both trumpet and piano. She was a regular member of the College Brass Band and played with many of the top names in banding. She played with some of the top bands in the country and worked under some of the great names of brass banding, including Howard Snell who also taught her for a year.
Hannah was Head of Music at St Cuthbert Mayne School in Torquay for twelve years but is now a freelance musician and teacher. Hannah is much in demand as a trumpet player and also as an accompanist. Her claim to fame was being fortunate to accompany the flautist James Galway.
Hannah is also the MD of the Torbay Police and Community Choir who the Band often join with in concert. https://www.torbaypoliceandcommunitychoir.org/
Singer in residence
Theresa Moorin is a much in demand soprano singer around Torbay. With a wealth of experience, she chooses wonderful songs to suit the audience and is so easy to listen to with her pure tone. Theresa is often accompanied by the wonderful Sally (who is also seen in this picture) and their duet of Supercalifragiliasticexpealidocious is a real show stopper. Theresa raises hundreds of pounds for charities. She is also a qualified self defence instructor with the British Combat Association.
President
Mike Lock Med Bed(hons) OBE. Band President. Mike Lock is the the retired Headteacher of Combe Pafford School in Torquay where the Band rehearse. The School provides an excellent rehearsal space for the Band and the Band are always pleased to raise money for this fantastic school. Mike is an excellent President who freely gives his time and support to the Band. He has been awarded the OBE for his services to special needs education.
