Euphoniums/ Baritones

Ray Lloyd (solo euphonium). Ray is from Hereford and learnt to play at school. Ray fine tuned his playing abilities at the Royal Marines School of Music, serving then as a Royal Marine Musician. Ray played for many years in the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Band and also served as a Police Inspector on this force. Ray enjoys many things including being a football referee and FA referee instructor. Ray also plays viola and bass drum. He is the Chairman of our Band.

Sue Leaman (euphonium). Sue grew up in the Totnes/ Dartington area. She learnt to play clarinet whilst at KEVICC but had to stop when she moved to London to train as a nurse. After moving back to Devon, Sue’s son started learning with Totnes Town Band and Sue thought she would give it a go too. Sue has played with local bands ever since.

Fred King (first baritone). Fred was born in Torquay and is now a retired entrepreneur known by everyone in Torquay. Fred learnt to play at Torquay Salvation Army where he is still a member. Fred has played for Torbay Brass Band, Bay Brass and RCB. He lists his hobbies as bowling, swimming and charity work and considers himself a general dogs body in helping everyone.

Chris Sanders (2nd baritone). Chris started learning the trumpet at the age of 10 and has been picking it up and putting it down ever since. He always enjoyed watching his Grandad, Geoff, playing with the Devon and Cornwall Constabulary Band and RCB and after a concert with RCB, his Grandad suggested he pick up the trumpet again. Chris started coming along to alternate Wednesday rehearsals and after a change of instrument was suggested, Chris fell in love with the baritone. Chris also enjoys rowing, performing and watching theatre. He has two sons and a love of steam trains (big or small).
